The Trust is a Community Charity committed to providing facilities and equipment to encourage people of all ages and abilities to participate in sport. Our aim is to provide and equip a sports and leisure facility in the rural community, providing facilities for all mainstream sports including football, cricket, tennis, badminton, hockey, basketball, netball, volleyball and table tennis and will also provide an opportunity for able bodied and those with disabilities to try new sports and leisure activities. It will be also available for use by local schools and facilitate other community groups such as local sports clubs; disability sports groups; children’s activity groups; after school clubs; and dance, drama, martial arts, yoga and fitness classes.
Once complete, the Trust plans to engage local, regional and county public authorities and sports bodies with a view to holding regular classes for a selection of sports and activities and hiring the services of qualified and registered coaches. The nominal fees charged for these classes and the hiring of the hall to individuals, groups and sports clubs, will enable it to become self funding, with any profits invested directly back into maintaining and improving the facility. Further funds will be raised via public hire for functions such as private parties, wedding receptions, and public meetings which will be allocated for financing other sports initiatives identified in consultation with the community. The parish council have been approached and have agreed in principal to our plans.
In 2009 The Trust and its volunteers have worked hard to raise funds which have included many activities, a sponsored cycle ride from Woodford to Bournemouth and back (240 miles),cricket matches, fun run, golf day, street collection with Woodford Fire Service, Santa delivering Christmas presents on Christmas Day, plus many more. During 2009 The Trust sponsored the under 15s cricket and for 2010 is helping to set up and fund youth cricket and kwik cricket in the village, we also funded the local ladies netball team purchasing kit and equipment to enable them to play in the local Daventry league. In December we joined forces with Woodford Fire Service and an army of volunteers from both parties visiting houses in the village with Santa and the Fire Engine - thanks to the generosity of the village a fantastic £1,196.00 was raised and divided between the two causes.
Once again our thanks to everyone for both their help and support in the last year and hopefully in the future, we could not have done it without you. If there is anyone out there who would like to become involved with The Trust in any way be it advice, funding, prizes, donations, organising, ideas or just time we will be only to glad to hear from you.
