LOST AND DESERTED VILLAGES IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
Tutor:             Ted Walmsley
In the past, the rural landscapes of Northamptonshire boasted over 400 villages.  Some grew to become market towns or were swallowed up by urban expansion; others became deserted and lost to our landscape.  Some have shrunken in size, with only a manor house, church or isolated farm marking the original site.  The course studies a selection of these villages, examining locations, reasons for their demise and the evidence that can still be found in the landscape.
This is a ten-week course, starting on Tuesday 19 January 2010, 7.30 pm - 9.00 pm, in the School Hall, Byfield School, Bell Lane, Byfield.  The fee will be £43.50.  The course is free to anyone on means-tested benefit.
