Daventry District Sports Awards
Written by WOW Editors
Thursday, 01 July 2010 21:06

It's that time of year again where we are looking for nominations for the Daventry District Sports Awards. As with previous years, winners from the Daventry event will be nominated for the Northamptonshire Sports Awards. Last year 2 of our winners went on to win at county level also.
If you are involved with schools or colleges we would like your nominations for Sports School of the Year, Young Leader of the Year, Team of the Year, Disabled Sportsperson and Junior Sportsman/woman. You may even feel that you are able to nominate for Lifetime Contribution to Sport.
Clubs - I think every category is relevant to you so take your pick. Please be aware that the Community Club of the Year Award will again go to a public vote via the Daventry Express and DDC website.
Please feel free to nominate in any category and to pass on through your networks so we can recognise as many peoples contributions to sport as possible.
Please be aware that all nominations must reach me by 12pm on Friday 10th September

Nomination forms this year’s awards will be available from Thursday, July 1, from 9am and anyone can nominate from that date. They can be downloaded at www.daventrydc.gov.uk/sportsawards

Attention Horse Owners
Written by WOW Editors
Thursday, 20 May 2010 20:17

Urgent massage to all horse owners across the entire beat;

A horse in Staverton has been reported to have a marking on its neck..... A black cross in waterproof paint or something similar, this is a marking from a traveller community, also a marking would be a plait in the mane, it occurs with a certain bread of horse predominate black and white horses or ponies, this would indicate a theft of that horse if these markings are put there and not seen by the owners, it identifies the horse that the travellers want...... to date no horses have been reported stolen so please be vigilant and keep it that way,

If you are at all concerned than I suggest you please call it in to the control room as the owner of the horse did in Staverton I then have put them in touch with our Crime Prevention Officer, Farm Watch and Horse watch and I advised on short term prevention....

Also.... horses have been put in random fields by the travellers, they will be black and white or all white and sometimes tethered, if you have experienced this, I advised you not to approach the people who do this as someone near Lilborne was threatened that his barns would be burnt down if he complained... not nice I know, but call that in to as we have a dedicated Wildlife Officer who needs to know this and can advise accordingly.

Come and join a winning team!

1st Woodford Halse Scout Group are one of the biggest and busiest Scout Groups in the Daventry District and are on the lookout for new volunteers to help us give the children the best scouting experience possible!

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers meet each week during the evening for fun filled activities. Although we are always on the lookout for helpers at meetings on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights, we are really keen at the moment to invite those of you that can help with the odd event, like an angling match, cooking competition or art exhibition. Better still we really need someone to run our website and two or three people that want to come along and help with our camping programme.

Occasional helping in this way helps you to get to know the team and the children. It also gives people new to scouting a great chance to see what it’s about. Come along, feel valued, enjoy good company and do something really worth while!!!
